First Project
The art club's first project will be a magnified eye of a Dragon. Students looked at several photographs of eyes of lizards, snakes, turtles and other reptiles to get a good idea of what a dragon eye would look like. The drawing will be 18 x 18. Students will be using all their space, including texture of the skin of the dragon. This skin should look scale-like. After the pencil work is complete, students will give color to the eye with oil pastels and paint.

October 6, 2009 meeting:
Wow they are doing it. The textures of the dragon's eye is done and students are now using oil pastels to highlight the pencils lines. Next meeting we will be discussing blending the oil pastels and then applying metallic paint. The work so far it is amazing
.

October 13, 2009 meeting:
Students have moved into adding metallic paints to the painting. After the paint is complete, students will go back into the work to add depth to the work using the oil pastels.

October 27th, 2009 meeting:
Many students have finished the eye of the dragon. The details are so amazing that I swear I could walk up to it and feel those lump bumpy scales.

November 10, 2009 meeting
Members finished their dragon eye paintings and we have started an unusual clay projects. Using the inside of a plastic 2 liter soda bottle, students will line the inside of the bottle with clay balls no larger than a grape. The bottle will maintain the shape of this container until the clay dries and is ready to be carefully placed in the kiln to be fired. Members have also been asked to design the yearbook cover. All entries will be published in the yearbook.

December 9, 2009 meeting
We finished up a very difficult clay project which I will never do again. Through trial and major errors we all came to the conclusion that the individual that came up with this project was a magician. We attempted to take a plastic soda bottle, whose top part was removed, and line the bottom and walls with small balls of clay. We even blended the insides to ensure a proper bond. The clay did pull from the sides as I hoped. The bottoms would not loosen from the bottle. Almost all fell apart. So far about 5 survived and it is beyond me how. I will fire the surviving pieces. This really showed the members what an artists goes through when attempting new techniques.
What we did successfully start is a silhouette of each member. In each silhouette are numerous patterns that will be colored with marker.

January 5, 2010 Meeting
We missed out finishing our snowflake ornaments due to the snow storm So we were working on both that and a silhouette drawing filled with patterns that break up the space of the silhouette. Our plan for now is to finish both the snowflake and the silhouette then move onto the painting of a glass bottle. Inside the bottle will hold a written message. This message will be personal to the artist who wrote it. This should be great fun!

February 2nd, 2010 Meeting
All members are working on the bottle project and then we move onto a drawing of bones from actual X-rays. Students will learn and build upon their knowledge of creating the look of volume through shading and blending. The yearbook photographer was here and the club picture was taken.

February 23rd, 2010 Meeting
Students are finishing the stained glass bottle project and some have started the bone drawing. The break due to snow caused us to miss 2 meetings. My members will hae no problem catching up!

April 6,2010 Meeting

Students finished both the bottle project and the bone drawing project. We have moved onto carboard sculptures. Members have been asked to transform these cylinders so their their intended purpose is almost lost. I am curious as to how they will solve this problem.

April 27 Meeting

There is so much going on.....I had one student helping me return festival work.

Students were in the midst of one or more of the following projects:
cylinder sculptures, abstract watercolor painting or an abstract black glue line paintings. These students are so self directed and so eager each ad every Tuesday to think outside the box and dazzle all!!
